A chiropractic adjustment at Modern Movement Medicine is safe, gentle and effective. Depending on the area of concern, some adjustments may look and feel different in certain areas of the body than others. Our Chiropractic Doctors always make sure that you not only feel comfortable before, during and after your treatment, we also walk you through how it will go so that there are no surprises.

A chiropractic adjustment at Modern Movement Medicine is safe, gentle, and effective. Every adjustment is tailored to the patient using advanced thermal imaging, X-rays, as well as other tests. We are not a “once size fits all” clinic where everyone gets the same adjustment. We take pride in being as objective, precise and specific as possible with every single adjustment we do.

This varies for every patient depending on the nature of your condition. Your Provider will discuss this number with you at your follow up Day 2 appointment.

While there are always risks associated with any treatment, Chiropractic is considered to be one of the safest treatments for pain management and other musculoskeletal conditions. While there have been some allegations that chiropractic could possibly cause a stroke, upon further investigation, in most of these cases the practicing chiropractor missed that the patient was having stroke-like symptoms to begin with. That being said, the likelihood of a specific chiropractic adjustment causing stroke is minimal, with higher chances of being struck by lightning.

Chiropractic adjustments are typically not painful. That being said, when we are working with areas that are already painful and tender, as well as moving joints that are subluxated (not moving correctly, and sometimes causing nerve-related pain), in some cases there is mild to moderate soreness after an adjustment for 24-48 hours. Ask your provider if ice or heat is recommended, and/or if anti-inflammatories.

Most recommended treatment plans average between 8-12 weeks. Your overseeing Providers and Case Manager will check in with you repeatedly throughout your course of treatment to ensure that you are on track to meet your goals.

The amount of time put into your care with us at Modern Movement Medicine, will be significantly less than if you were undergoing an invasive procedure such as surgery. On average, we request about 4 hours of appointment time each week while you are undergoing care. While each patient’s journey is different, typical treatment plans average around 8-12 weeks. After you’ve graduated from your care plan, maintenance may be suggested depending on your condition and diagnosis.

Please wear loose, relaxed clothing that allows you to easily move in. Don’t worry if you forget, we can provide you with attire if needed!

Sometimes noise is heard during an adjustment, and the sound heard is nitrogen gas bubbles leaving the joint. It’s important to note that just because a joint “pops” - this does not necessarily mean that the joint has been “adjusted” - it just means that pressure from the joint has been temporarily released. The nitrogen gas that escapes from the joint temporarily produces endorphins and can feel good, but this sensation is only temporary and if continued, can actually further damage joints, ligaments and even nerves!

Trust us, if we could adjust ourselves - we would! Unfortunately, we all too often find that our patients are “self adjusting” with foam rollers, or having their friends or family members walking on their backs or trying all sorts of ways to “adjust” them. Inevitably, these patients end up eventually still needing to schedule an appointment with us. Why? Just because you can make a joint “pop”, doesn’t mean that you’ve fixed the problem. The nitrogen gas that escapes temporarily produces endorphins and feels good, but the pain typically ends up coming right back, and sometimes worse! The only true way to be “adjusted” is by an experienced professional who has years of training and experience working with joints and the neuromuscular system.

The total cost of your suggested treatment plan will be discussed in privacy with your overseeing Case Manager at your second visit. Our medical clinic accepts most major insurances, as well as offering several forms of financial assistance if needed.

At your report of findings or second visit to our office, your Case Manager will review your insurance coverage with you. This aligns with our goals of being transparent with all of our patients, limiting unforeseen costs and stress!

Unfortunately, no. Regenerative therapies still qualify as experimental medical procedures, despite its incredible effects that are being seen all across the world! If you are interested in receiving this form of therapy at our office, or its part of your recommended treatment plan, but are concerned about your ineligibility for coverage under your current health insurance plan, don’t worry! Your overseeing case manager will have plenty of options for you!

Trigger point injection (TPI) is a procedure used to treat painful areas of muscle that contain trigger points, or knots of muscle that form when muscles cannot relax. Trigger points can irritate the nerves around them and cause referred pain, or pain that is felt in another part of the body.

Injections are a relatively painless treatment option. Especially compared to other treatment options, such as surgery. Some patients, however, may experience varying degrees of discomfort during the procedure due to the extent, type and location of the injection, which is determined based on the injury.

If Chiropractic or Physical Therapy is recommended for your condition by your overseeing medical provider, then we strongly encourage you to follow your recommended treatment plan. At Modern Movement Medicine, we believe that movement truly is medicine and allows your body to heal from within, without drugs or surgery.

At Modern Movement Medicine, we offer both chiropractic and physical therapy (functional movement therapy). While there are significant differences between the two, we find that both forms of therapy work synergistically together. Chiropractic addresses the nervous system and joints, which should always be the first step to ensure that there are no neurological or structural blocks that would prevent physical therapy from working correctly. After these blocks are removed, then physical therapy begins to strengthen and stabilize the treatment areas of concern.
