Regenerative Medicine and Platelet rich plasma AKA PRP

At Modern Movement Medicine, we specialize in non-surgical solutions for our patients experiencing musculoskeletal pain. One of these treatments is called PRP, or platelet-rich plasma injections. PRP helps alleviate pain, improve mobility, and decrease inflammation - naturally.

At your initial consultation, our team of experts will review your past medical history, physical exam, and imaging. After discussing your diagnosis and prior treatments, our team will determine if PRP is an appropriate option for you and how it may be beneficial.

Your blood is made up of plasma, white blood cells, red blood cells, and platelets. PRP therapy harnesses the healing power of your own blood by isolating platelets—key proteins that play a crucial role in tissue repair. Platelet-rich plasma therefore uses your very own concentrated platelets to promote and stimulate the body's natural healing process and support recovery from injury.

Blood is drawn from the patient's arm and processed in a machine called a centrifuge. The centrifuge separates the blood's components into three parts; platelets, white blood cells, and red blood cells. The concentrated platelets are extracted, and injected into the affected area. It is a minimally invasive, non-surgical needle procedure, which enhances healing by using your body’s natural bioactive factors.

The procedure has few side effects, and patients can resume normal activity almost immediately following the procedure. During the appointment, your blood is drawn, processed, and readied for injection. Numbing medicine is applied and your concentrated platelets are injected into the affected area and guided by real-time imaging. The procedure appointment takes about one hour, with results typically appearing in about four to six weeks.

Unlike cortisone or other injectable medications, PRP is a natural substance derived from your own body, making it extremely safe with minimal adverse reactions. As with any injection or needle procedure, there is a small risk of infection, bleeding, and damage to local structures. It is important to note that one injection may suffice, however, some patients may need two or three for optimal results.

"I’ve been to many many chiropractors over the years and Dr. Brittany has been outstandingly the most thorough with my initial work up. Her plan is also very much individualized to each person and works to correct each misalignment, instead of a general fix. I’ve been more than happy with my experience with her. She does a great job explaining what is occurring with your bone structure and alignment and what she is going to do to fix this issue. Would highly recommend."
